Built-In, Not Added On: A Custom-Fit PVC Deck
What the clients wanted:
The homeowners' old cedar deck and pergola were well past their prime. They wanted a low-maintenance replacement that would last, and a deck off the living room that felt like an extension of the house: a place to sit out and take in the view of the valley. While at it, they also wanted the small platform and staircase at the back of the house rebuilt to match.
How we built it:
We replaced both decks with PVC decking backed by a 50-year warranty and finished them with a full trim package. Picture-frame borders, wrapped fascia and mitered stair treads give every edge a clean, finished look.
The larger deck sits against a retaining wall that runs slightly out of parallel with the house. Instead of leaving an awkward gap between the deck and the wall, we custom-fit the deck to run right up to it, so it feels built-in rather than added on.
The result:
Two matching decks that flow naturally from the house, with a seamless step out from the living room to the view, plus plans for a pergola down the road.
"The decks turned out better than expected due to design suggestions made by Cole and by his obvious refusal to compromise his high standards even when challenges arose." – Mike B.
