Deck Rebuild with Upgrades
For this project, the client wanted to keep the existing framing but update the decking and railings. During demolition, we found areas of the framing that needed replacing, and we doubled the joists to reduce the spacing from 24 inches to 12 inches for added stability. We also installed ladder blocking for the deck borders and doubled flat blocking to secure surface-mounted railing posts. The existing ledger boards received new flashing for added protection at the house, and we framed a new staircase at one end of the deck.
We installed TimberTech Terrain+ decking using exposed, color-matched fasteners. A raised fascia wrapped the perimeter, with the same treatment applied to the stair stringers. We heat-bent the corners for a clean, seamless look. The stairs included a closed skirt for a finished edge. Finally, TimberTech Fulton rail posts and panels were added to the deck and stairs, topped with a drink rail and a spring-loaded gate to keep the client’s dogs contained.
