Our client wanted to expand their deck to create a more inviting outdoor space. Working collaboratively on the design, we built a pergola-style roof frame topped with clear polycarbonate panels to maximize natural light while providing shelter from the elements.

To enhance both function and aesthetics, we added two sets of wide, deep-tread stairs - perfect for accommodating large potted plants. A built-in swing replaced a section of railing, adding a cozy and playful element to the space.

Since the deck height was less than 30 inches above grade, a guardrail wasn’t required by code. However, we included custom 2x6 top rails to double as ledges for additional plants and décor.

To keep critters out, a skirt made of cement board was installed around the base, extending below soil level for added protection.

This project brought a balance of utility, creativity, and charm that brought the outdoor space to life.
